Biography

The chief conductor and artist director of Göteborg Wind Orchestra, one of Europe’s finest wind orchestras, since 2005, Alexander Hanson is recognized for his diverse conducting experience and musical craftsmanship. In addition, Hanson also manages his own freelance conducting business with great success. As an orchestral and operatic conductor, Hanson has previously conducted premieres with The Royal Opera in Stockholm, among others.

Born in Södertälje, Sweden, Hanson initially launched his musical career as a trumpet player and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. With a growing passion for conducting, Hanson then attended and graduated with honors from the acclaimed Sibelius Academy of Conducting in Helsinki. While at the Academy, Hanson studied conducting with professors Leif Segerstam, Atso Almila, and Jorma Panula.

Furthermore, Hanson has worked with many of Europe’s most prominent orchestras, including The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Court Orchestra in Stockholm, The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, The Swedish Chamber Orchestra, The Gävle Symphony Orchestra, The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, The Malmö Symphony Orchestra, The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway, The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark, The Symphony Orchestra of Norrlandsoperan, Dalasinfoniettan, The Västerås Sinfonietta, The Nordic Chamber Orchestra, The Jönköping Sinfonietta, The Royal Swedish Navy Band, The Guard’s Band in Finland, The Swedish Wind Ensemble, and many more.

Hanson continues to record his music as well, including recordings with The Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, The Malmö Symphony Orchestra, The Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Dalasinfoniettan, and The Göteborg Wind Orchestra. Hanson currently resides in Stockholm.
